@fancyscientist: I hear this ALL THE TIME: "I can't get a job in wildlife, conservation, or environmental sciences because of...(fill in the blank)." At first, I would believe them. But now, having professionally mentored enough students over the past 6 years, I've developed some strong side-eye toward these statements.  Because in many cases, it just isn't true.  When I ask to see their resume, it becomes crystal clear that it's not their experience, age, or whatever else they said that was holding them back. It's their job application.  You see, most people make the big mistake of taking regular job application advice and using it for wildlife jobs. And it's not their fault! How would they know? But in my 20+ years of wildlife work, I know it doesn't work. And to be honest, I love seeing this problem. Because it's an easy fix! My students are proof.
