I love being a social worker. Just passed my LCSW. I’ve been a remote therapist for almost three years as a LMSW making six figures a year remotely. It’s hard to find your place, but when you do, it gets better. 🫶🏾

For a field that preaches about anti-oppressive practices, it’s crazy how oppressive it is. After working for free for two years in unpaid internships, now trying to find a clinical supervisor and people are out here charging $150 per supervision hour…HELLO where am I supposed to get that money??? Never mind the fact that in my state, you legally need to have a supervisor to practice as an LMSW regardless of whether you are working towards your clinical license 🫠

I think you becoming a social worker as someone with lived experience makes complete sense though. The job is tailored to YOUR lived experience

I’m in CA so maybe doesn’t relate but unlicensed positions range between 60-80k a year with a huge jump after licensure. I’ve been licensed for 15 years and am well into the 6 figures. Big factor: public service loan forgiveness and grants. I received several grants while in grad school and when I carried loan debt. I literally made money when I had loans. I think you really need to research. There’s money in SW especially after licensure. My private practice pays between $90-120/hour, all telehealth. Sure, I had some slim years but that’s the grind. I’m retiring soon with full benefits and still able to earn.

The hardest pill to swallow is that I am only able to live comfortably as a public servant because my partner makes six figures in a massive corporation doing the opposite of me. 😔

My first job was 16 dollars an hour. Then when I switched to another job that started 21. Now I am 25 an hour. I’ve been in the field for 10 years. It’s awful 😣

I changed my mind on social work, I love it, I was good at it, but I can’t ride the struggle bus my whole life. I’ll come back after I established, but I’m changing my route up.

Crawled through the trenches as a first generation with NO financial support and just got my LCSW. I am trying to see where the 200k a year folks at and how they up there? I got a 5% raise for becoming licensed and still under 100k at my primary job. Are we doing something wrong lmao wth?

I switch jobs every 2 years. Each jobs has paid more and more. I started off at 15 an hr with child welfare. Now I’m in hospice making 35 and hr. I’m currently working towards passing my LMSW and I started my supervision hours. It’s definitely the love and passion for this job..

A lot of jobs will not pay after college. You have to build the experience. I made little to nothing on my first SW job, stayed for a year, went to another SW job with a 10k increase, stayed for a year, and then went into Medical SW with another 7k increase. You have to job hop in this field.
