Why Are My Grapes Dying Before Harvest? Could This Be a Fungus? In this video, I show my grapevines just weeks before harvest—only something’s gone wrong. The grapes are shriveling, darkening, and dying on the vine. The leaves still look mostly healthy, but the fruit is deteriorating fast. I suspect a fungal issue, possibly black rot, downy mildew, or Botrytis bunch rot—all common problems that can hit just before harvest and ruin a good crop. Black rot typically shows up as sunken black spots on the fruit. Downy mildew may affect the leaves first, but fruit damage can follow if left untreated.
