India’s Enormous Potential and the Challenges Holding It Back - Also SIngapore Airline's Experience - Lee Kuan Yew #singaporeairlines #leekuanyew #china #india #modi #shanghai #mumbai #singapore #lky @billionairephilosophy Why India Can't Be China? Why Mumbai Can't Be Shanghai? | Lee Kuan Yew | LKY, MM, Singapore In this video, we share Lee Kuan Yew's Views on India and How India Can Achieve Her Potential. In India, Lee Kuan Yew is a well-respected political statesman. He has met many of India’s Prime Ministers including Prime Minster Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Manmohan Singh. At Lee Kuan Yew’s passing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: The passing away of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew marks the end of an era. He was among the tallest leaders of our times. Given Lee Kuan Yew’s experience in nation building and statesmanship, what he said about India carries tremendous weight and has valuable lessons for India’s development. This video comprises 3 Sections. Section 1 In this section, Lee Kuan Yew shared that India has made tremendous growth despite its constraints. In contrast with China which is homogeneous with more than 90% Han, India is more diverse. According to Lee Kuan Yew, vast diversities in cultures and languages also attract challenges in communicating and implementing policies. He also explained why Mumbai can’t be Shanghai. Section 2 In this section, Lee Kuan Yew said that no single person can change India. However, Lee Kuan Yew shared that there are governance tenets that can be helpful to India, namely: Integrity and Absence of Corruption, Meritocracy, and Fair Level Playing Field. He observed that India has its own speed. Nevertheless, he praised Bombay (Mumbai). Section 3 In this section, Lee Kuan Yew shared that India has great potential but also has its challenges. He also shared his observations of Singapore’s experience in doing business in India. Lee Kuan Yew (born 16 September 1923, passed away 23 March 2015), often referred to by his initials LKY, was a Singaporean lawyer, politician and statesman who served as the founding Prime Minister of Singapore between 1959 and 1990. He was one of the greatest leaders of the 20th and 21st centuries. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Tanjong Pagar from 1955 until his death in 2015. Lee is widely recognized as the founding father of Singapore. Lee was born in Singapore during British colonial rule. After World War II ended, Lee attended the London School of Economics briefly before transferring to Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge to study law, graduating in 1947. He was called to the Bar from the Middle Temple in 1950. Upon his return to Singapore, he practiced as an advocate and solicitor whilst campaigning for the British to relinquish their colonial rule. He is the founding Prime Minister of Singapore.
