holy heck. my parents gave us 30k and we did extensions on the house to accommodate our growing family. Then once his mother passed i told my husband i needed a new car with more seats to fit all the kids. It's give and take. still with my husband and hes the only one working. Im looking for part time work with school hours now though coz this economy sucks.

My maternal grandfather set up trusts for me and my sisters for when we turned 18 when we were little. My dad found out, and suggested to my mum that they cash them in early and have a holiday 🤦♀️

my wife's mother passed away and left her and her siblings her house, my wife asked me what should WE do with the money when they sell the house. I said whatever you want, because her mom didnt leave me the house so it was up to her what she did with her inheritance.

I was always raised to “stay out of other people’s pockets” meaning the money someone has is none of my business unless I’m married to them. Even then some money is off limits. If you’re dating, the money you’re saving is no one’s business but your own, stop telling people about the money you have.

My husband had a distant relative leave him $2,500. The estate only found him via me. He asked what we should do w/$. I said WE aren’t doing anything, he’s got $2,500 to spend or save.

when my bf mum passed away I knew he was going to be left some money. anytime some unexpected cost came up he would say we can use the money his mum left. I categorically put a stop to it. I said I appreciate the thought but whatever was left was yours to treat yourself. not for us to pay bills. id rather tighten our belts for a month or two so that money was not touched. a couple years later he bought himself a car with the money. he was so happy he could and I know his mum would be happy with it too 🥰

When a distant relative died, I was left some money. It wasn't much, like £600 or something. I mentioned to my then BF and suddenly his up until now perfectly functional games console was broken, slow and over heating and how he needed a new one. He was mad I didn't offer to buy it for him. I spent it on myself.

On our first (and last) date I mentioned that my dad passed when I was 10 and I received money which my mum used to by me a flat when I turned 18…. His immediate and only reaction was “i wish I had that” to which i responded “i wish i had my dad”. He didn’t even flinch!!!!

Got the check from my fathers estate and my husband got mad because I deposited it in my own name. One money market and a CD. That’s my money, and I gave him $3,000 dollars to reimburse him for a large purchase that we bought specifically for me.
