@t_razz0: Tucked away on Level 4 of Rem Koolhaas’ futuristic 2004 building, this space is painted entirely in 13 shades of red. The curving walls and organic shapes wrap around you like something out of a dream, or maybe a liminal space between reality and somewhere else entirely. It is strangely quiet and disorienting even though it sits right in the middle of one of the busiest libraries in the city. Designed for community gatherings, it holds four reservable meeting rooms and two computer labs, with “Robert’s Rules of Order” printed along the continuous hallway. The bold red was meant to feel warm and energizing, but many visitors say it gives off an unexpected eerie or otherworldly vibe. This striking floor is part of the Central Library that stands on the same downtown site where Seattle has had a central library since the original Carnegie building opened way back in 1906. The Red Floor closed during the pandemic and dramatically reopened to the public in July 2022. It has become one of the most photographed and talked about spots in the whole building. #SeattleCentralLibrary #RedFloor #LiminalSpace #RemKoolhaas #SeattleHiddenGems
