@amy_ketchum: In 1982, 17-year-old Courtney Love left the United States, spent time in Dublin, and became obsessed with the exploding Liverpool post-punk scene. She met Julian Cope of The Teardrop Explodes and ended up moving to Liverpool with her friend Robin Barbur. They lived in a rundown flat near Toxteth and immersed themselves in the city’s music culture. She was in Liverpool in 1982. Within about two years she was fronting an early version of Faith No More in San Francisco. Before Courtney Love became the frontwoman of Hole and before her relationship with Kurt Cobain, she briefly sang for Faith No More in early 1984. She joined the band around February 1984 and remained for only a few months, performing roughly eight shows before being dismissed. What’s especially interesting is that video footage survives from a San Francisco public-access television appearance in spring 1984. Love was only 19 years old and was sometimes billed as “Courtney Henley.” The band described themselves as “psychedelic death rock,” and the performance is very different from the Faith No More most people know from the Mike Patton era.
