@obieleysblacklens: Europe says reparations should not be reduced to a cheque. Africa says history cannot be reduced to a conversation. And somewhere between those two positions lies one of the most important debates of our time. At a landmark conference in Accra, voices from across Africa and the diaspora gathered to ask a question that refuses to disappear: What does justice look like centuries after slavery? French President Emmanuel Macron acknowledged the horrors of slavery, but argued that reparations must go beyond financial compensation. Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka challenged Africa to move beyond rhetoric and focus on restoring dignity, memory and human value. President John Mahama called for responsibility rather than inherited guilt. Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt insisted that reparations are not charity, but justice. The debate is no longer about whether slavery happened. History settled that long ago. The debate now is whether the wealth, institutions and inequalities that emerged from that history still demand a response today. Can history be paid for? Can memory be repaired? And what does the next chapter of this conversation look like for Africa and the world? Akwasi :
African leaders are looting their countries’ resources and denying their citizens Justice at home BUT have the guts and audacity to ask for reparations.
