Kuya Gen Xer :
In the Philippines, many hospitals run by the 🇵🇭 Department of Health (DOH) now provide free or nearly free care for Filipino citizens under the government’s Zero Balance Billing (ZBB) or No Balance Billing program, especially if the patient is admitted to a basic ward or charity ward. Under this program, qualified patients in DOH hospitals should not have to pay for hospital services, doctor fees, medicines available in the hospital, and other covered expenses.
However, “free” does not always mean everything is covered:
* Patients admitted to private rooms or deluxe rooms may still have charges.
* Some medicines or supplies that are unavailable in the hospital may need to be purchased outside.
* Specialty government hospitals may have different rules and coverage.
* Having an active enrollment in the national health insurance program, PhilHealth, helps ensure full coverage. Under the Universal Health Care law, all Filipinos are automatically included in PhilHealth.
So, for most Filipinos using basic accommodations in DOH hospitals, hospitalization can now be essentially free or have very little out-of-pocket cost.
