I think they said valid because in the sense of “all addictions matter” some people will say an addiction like vaping isn’t actually an addiction, saying that it’s a valid addiction is to specify the specific addiction

Addictions like vaping and skipping school are valid in the way that people who have them should receive the same support as with any other addiction. OP most likely meant that many addictions aren't seen as "valid" or "real" enough and thus aren't treated as seriously.
