1 - Thinking I could pass exams on prior knowledge. I had already passed my Recreational Pilot Exam, so when it came to my Aerodynamics Commercial Exam, I thought I had it covered. I hardly studied for that exam and ended up failing, which cost me $250 AUD in an exam resit fee and another two weeks of my time having to restudy the content (time that I could have been spending to fly). Moral of the story, never have the “she’ll be right” attitude when it comes to these exams. Even if you think you know the content, still study the prescribed hours - trust me. 2 - Not spending more of my time at the flight school. If you have the time and you can, try to spend as much time at your school as possible. Students will cancel flights all the time and if you are there already, you can be the one to take that flight - which ultimately puts you closer to your finishing date, ie saving time 3 - Showing up unprepared. Before you fly, you will know what the upcoming flight is going to entail. Make sure you study as much as you can to be fully prepared for that upcoming flight. During my time as a student I had to do 3 remedial flights, costing me over $2000 in total - all of which could have been avoided if I would have put in the study hours beforehand. 4 - Being afraid to ask questions. There were times I nodded along when I didn’t fully understand something. One question on the ground is a lot cheaper than figuring it out in the air. 5 - Long gaps between training. If possible, avoid this at all costs. Especially at such an early stage of training, if you aren’t flying regularly, you will lose the momentum quickly! You haven’t been doing it long enough to build up that muscle memory, so the last thing you want to do is have to relearn skills, especially when sitting in a plane that is guzzling AVGAS - very expensive. #studentpilot #pilottraining #pilot #aviation #aviationlovers - @flyinghone
