Story Synopsis. Set between the chapters Nova Prospekt and Entanglement, the G-Man awakens Corporal Adrian Shephard from stasis and assigns him a new mission. Destroy the Combine Air Exchange Facility. Following Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance's infiltration of Nova Prospekt, a secret operation is launched against the Air Exchange Facility by a group of Conscripts preparing to turn against the Combine. While remaining hidden within the Combine's ranks, the Conscripts receive intelligence and operational support from members of the City 17 Resistance, allowing them to plan an attack on one of the Combine's most important installations. The Air Exchange is responsible for processing the region's atmosphere for the benefit of the Advisors, slowly making it increasingly hostile to human life. Deep within the facility, massive dimensional turbines siphon Earth's atmosphere through interdimensional portals to generate power for distant Combine worlds. Its destruction would deal a significant blow to Combine operations throughout the region. By the time Shephard arrives, however, the operation has already gone terribly wrong. Most of the Conscripts have been killed, the facility has been locked down, and large numbers of Combine soldiers and synth units have been deployed to defend it. As he fights deeper into the complex alongside the remaining survivors, Shephard attracts the attention of Dr. Wallace Breen. Recognizing the former H.E.C.U corporal, Breen offers him a chance to complete the mission he never finished at Black Mesa: the hunt for Gordon Freeman. Haunted by memories of Black Mesa and facing some of the Combine's deadliest forces, Shephard must decide whether to pursue an old target or finish the mission he was sent to accomplish. With the fate of the Resistance and the future of humanity hanging in the balance, his actions may help determine the outcome of the war against the Combine.
