there is a lore tab explaining that he crashlands in the presence of aunor, and a "entity took over his ghost" and told him to find the guardian and to tell us to go to the shard. (i believe you need to do the triumph you and me, big blue to get the cutscene at the shard)

there's an update with Shiro-4, in the last update bungie made for destiny 2 in the season pass there's an exotic ship with lore concerning Shiro-4 and what he found.
