Marshall had no right to bring up San Francisco just to win this argument and that’s why he brought it up. He needed a get out of jail free card because he knew he screwed up. Lily supported all of Marshall’s major life changes and did her best to forgive all his boundary crossings.

I've seen this clip so many times, I figured now was the time to put in my opinion. Lily is 100% in the wrong in this instance. Now, starting at the SF argument, Marshall was in the wrong. Lily was her own person who had her own dreams and aspirations, and Marshall giving her an ultimatum was selfish. That being said, Marshall was correct to bring the SF argument back up, but not for the reason he did it for. why? because Lily was doing exactly what Marshall did, but worse. she didn't even give him the decency of a choice, she just put her foot down and told Marshall that they were going to Italy. not to mention, in the SF case, Lily was attending an art program to follow the dream of being an artist, whilst in this instance, Marshall was following reality where he actually has the career locked in. I've seen so many people on this app say that Lily is in the right in both arguments, which is extremely contradictory.

was what lily did in the first season terrible? yes 100% but if you get back with someone, that means you forgive them and are ready to start over. you cannot keep bringing it up to win fights. if you do not forgive them and think they have changed, you shouldn't take them back. if you do believe they are different and forgive them, you have to let it go. personally, I wouldn't have been able to get over it so I wouldn't have given her a second chance, but Marshall did which means they are now in a new relationship and he cannot punish her for what he has already forgiven

Neither of them are right. Lily has a tendency to be selfish. And has been so in the past. Marshall should discuss huge life decisions with his wife. But her refusal to even discuss it as an option is also selfish because maybe ultimately not going to Italy is the better choice.

Lily was wrong. Yes Marshall should have talked to her first, but just because he said yes doesn’t mean that you get to decide his dream and once in a lifetime opportunity doesn’t even deserve a real discussion. She was allowed to make unilateral decisions, but he wasn’t? And he’s right. If she’d found success as an artist she would have never gone back to him. And she knows that.

you know what was really upsetting? Marshall could've said "let me call you in 10 mins, I'll talk to my wife", call her and then figure it out. but no, he went all "this is face to face news" or whatever shit she said.
