Happy Weekend 🐓🐇🤍 Today has been a challenging day for us. I took Paula to the vet because I suspected she might have EC, a disease that causes protein films to form on her eyes. The vet confirmed my fears - Paula is most likely an EC bunny. It’s incredibly frustrating because I put so much effort into caring for my pets, yet we seem to encounter health issues. My chickens have mycoplasma, and now Paula has EC, both of which are incurable. It often feels like there’s always a downside to pet ownership, and I believe many people don’t openly discuss how frustrating it can be at times. However, no matter what challenges we face, my love for chickens and bunnies remains unwavering. 🤍 WHAT IS EC DISEASE? 🦠 EC (Encephalitozoon cuniculi) is a disease that commonly affects rabbits. It is caused by a microscopic parasite that can infect various organs, including the brain, kidneys, and eyes. EC is primarily transmitted through contact with infected urine or contaminated food and water. Symptoms of EC in rabbits can vary and may include head tilt, loss of balance, tremors, urinary problems, and in some cases, eye issues like protein films or cataracts. The severity of the disease can range from mild to severe, depending on the individual rabbit and the extent of the infection. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for EC in rabbits. However, treatments can focus on managing the symptoms, providing supportive care, and preventing the spread of the disease to other rabbits. #bunny #bunnies #chickens #chickenlove #backyardchickens #chickencoop #farmanimals #bunnyhouse #rabbit #pets #garden
