Adding an exterior door to an existing storage shed takes more than just cutting a hole — you need proper framing to carry the load and keep your door from binding. In this video, we walk through the full process of installing a 36-inch prehung exterior door into an existing shed wall. We start by removing existing studs on 60-inch centers, then frame in king studs at the correct spacing. The header is built from two 2x6s with a sheet of LP SmartSide sandwiched in the middle, supported by jack studs below to transfer the load. We use a router bit to cut the sheathing to exact size, then install Zip Wall sheathing — which combines sheathing and moisture barrier in one panel — in preparation for future insulation and a home office conversion.
