The hardest players to mark are always the most explosive athletes on the field. Explosiveness comes from the sudden contraction of a RELAXED muscle. In order to get by a defender you need to have either a change of pace or a change of direction (ideally both). When you are attacking a player try to slow up your run, stay relaxed, and then at the right moment explode out into space, but the key is switching up from a relaxed position to a sprint as fast as you can. This is why it's so important to work to improve your fluidity on the ball and try to reduce the stiffness in your body when your playing football.
