#creatorsearchinsights #hongkongtaxi #taxi #taxidriver #mobilephone The video shows a Hong Kong taxi driver with a dashboard covered in multiple mobile phones, seemingly at least 10, all mounted and operating simultaneously. The driver is casually interacting with some of the screens while driving. The Chinese characters on some of the phones, "載的" (zài de) and "飛的" (fēi de), refer to different types of taxi services in Hong Kong, essentially meaning "picked-up/booked taxi" and "flying taxi" (a common term for taxis booked via an app or phone). This extreme use of multiple phones is often seen among Hong Kong taxi drivers for a few key reasons: 1. Maximizing Bookings: Each phone is often running a different ride-hailing app or is connected to a different unofficial taxi-calling network/group. By having so many lines/apps open, the driver maximizes their chances of quickly receiving and choosing the most profitable and convenient ride requests. 2. Dispatch and Communication: Some phones are used for communication within groups of taxi drivers (like a dispatch or chat function) to relay information or calls. 3. Navigation and Other Apps: Separate phones may be dedicated to GPS navigation, a main contact phone, or other essential functions, as constantly switching between apps on a single phone is difficult and dangerous while driving. The driver himself explains at the end of the video: • He needs to "work" and "arrange customer, arrange taxi for the customer." • He also needs to "give out orders to the other taxi member." • He mentions having 10 phones. • Crucially, he states that a new law will be in effect starting January 25, 2026 (specifically, he says "January 2026" and "January 25"), which will only allow a maximum of two phones. He says he will have to "cut down eight phones." In summary, the video is a fascinating, if slightly concerning, look at a system Hong Kong taxi drivers use to hustle for fares, which is now being regulated for safety reasons.
