In 1982 my sister and I found an unlocked door that opened right onto the runway here. Of course we went out and immediately a jet roared down from around that mountain and landed. Definitely one of my crazier life experiences lol

My aunt lived in Kowloon City in the 90s. There were definitely pigeons on her roof. I used to sit out there and watch the planes. They were so close, it felt like you can touch the wings.

Dood, I spent 30m crawling your TikTok and it brought back so many happy memories for me in my early 30’s when I lived there. I started going to Hong Kong in the mid 90’s, but finally got to live there for eight months in 2003. Anyway, I loved Hong Kong. My good (he’s a Hong Kong citizen) buddy still lives there and I miss our weekend jaunts to Macau and golfing in Zhuhai and Shenzhen.

I was based there 1995-96 and loved it. So amusing watching the passengers’ faces on landing! The building where I lived is shown in this video. Upstairs in that building in the beginning, I’d order rice porridge in the employee’s cafeteria before my flights. I once got to ride in the cockpit on landing at night. Magical! The interior of the airport was old, worn and dingy since Chep Lak Kok was being built. My three words of Cantonese sometimes come in handy, even here in France (definitely at home in Old Gold Mountain!) I haven’t been back since I went for the handover. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! ❤️✈️🛫🛬

I remember flying into that airport on a dark and stormy night in the mid-90s. The captain and flight attendants made their normal announcements prior to landing. Just when it seemed like we were in final descent and about to touchdown, the engines revved up as we pulled out and circled back for another attempt after what felt like forever. We could tell that things weren’t normal because there were no further announcements until we landed. I’m glad they built a new airport soon after that.

I was on the last British Airways smoking flight to Hong Kong to the old airport, the plane touchdown and then it went back up again , the plane landed at the second attempt

Used to stay in Kowloon and loved being right next to so much history. Checkerboard Hill was incredible to see, even thirty years after Kai Tak closed. Despite the end of the two systems, it's still my favorite city in the world.

I wonder if that data in the flight board is still findable in a database somewhere I don’t know why I am interested just seems cool to see the actual board showing the data then going to look up the flights that day!
