I thanked someone for doing something nice for my partner and their response was "well I'm not doing it for you" yeah obviously- I was just trying to show my appreciation for the effort you put in to make someone I love happy- it haunts me, I hated that interaction.

People forget that saying “sorry” can just be offering your support and condolences, it’s not always an apology for something. Like of course I know it’s not my fault, I wasn’t apologizing for doing it, I was offering sympathy
