What does it mean to surrender? This month in The Academy it was all about surrender. Here’s a glimpse of what we covered this month: People always say “just surrender” but never explain how to actually do this. Through study and prayer, I learned what it means to surrender and I broke it down to 3 pillars. 1) STARVE THE FLESH 2) THE RENEWAL OF YOUR MIND 3) BE OBEDIENT At our first workshop, we covered starving the flesh. Every time you are tempted, RUN AWAY. When you flee temptation, you starve the flesh. Every time you feed it, you keep the flesh alive. That week we all participated in a community 24-hour fast. We literally STARVED the flesh. It was so powerful and many of our members had the revelation from God that they needed. The following week we covered the renewal of your mind. How does one go about this? Well, SCRIPTURE RENEWS THE MIND. You must be reading your bible consistenly for the Lord to renew your mind. I created a Bible Book Club for us to stay consistent with our Bible reading. It’s so much easier staying consistent with reading when you’re doing it with other people. And finally, this week (Friday August 21) we will cover the next step in your obedience. In order to do this, you must first figure out WHAT God wants you to focus on. I was surprised to find out that many of the members in the group don’t know what God’s will is in their lives. We will work on a simple exercise to help them figure out what is the next step they should take. Whatever season you’re in, remember, surrender and submit to Jesus in all your ways. Do this by dying to your flesh, soaking up scripture, and following His will not your own.
