The dilemma is legal right, versus keeping a promise to grandma. Grandma has attached lots of sentimental value to the vehicle and you, money value. Talk to grandma about selling it, explain your financial situation. Discuss how you feel bad about what she asked and whether you could discuss this option. This is about breaking a promise, but doing it with respect and honesty, and not behind her back. Remember the money might solve your short term problem, but cause a long term wound. I wouldn't sell family car- robbing Peter to pay Paul. This is a short term fix. You'd be trading security for cash. You'll lose your "safety net" having 2 paid off vehicles. Selling one- you're one flat tire/accident, engine problems, away from money woes again. When the money runs out, you'll be at odds with grandma and no money! I'd suggest talking to grandma first, second - get budgeting advice, consider selling other equity- tools, furniture etc.

I'd keep the Toyota. They last forever.

Don’t sell the car!!!!! It’s a Toyota!!!! It’s paid for and that car will last you for 300,000 more miles and not cost you much in maintenance. Don’t be foolish! Keep the camery! I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma! She’s 27 years old and she’s the best investment in my entire life life. DON’T SELL!

You took the car with strings attached. Honor the strings.

Yeah, I’ll bet you they have an enormous car payment on some fancy vehicle with $1000 payment. God forbid they would have to drive a Corolla.

Your Grandma is Looking out for YOU. She realizes something about your situation. She’s trying to empower you in some way. Your Grandma sounds like a life line. Don’t burn bridges. You can always make more money.

It's not honoring your grandmother's wishes; it's honoring what you said you would do.

The Camry is worth more than the other car. GMA KNOWS the car is worth a lot and gave them a gift. Keep the Camry and sell the other car.

Just tell grandma you wrecked the car and it was totaled and sell it, she will never know the difference

I’m calling it now, the greedy husband has dollar signs in his eyes and decided he wanted to sell it. That keeps the wife trapped at home, he makes money, and he doesn’t care about her grandmother. Pretty much what happened 😂

Tell grandma what it's worth and ask if she wants you to sell it and you can split the profit with her.

So, Grandma could have sold that car for more also. The only thing she asked of you for doing you a favor, and selling you an underpriced car that runs well, is to sell it back to her if you didn't want it anymore. And it sounds like you agreed on it. It's not okay to go back on that. She probably could have used the extra money also, but went out of her way to help you.
