@sugaresque: i tried summarising the full post to the best of my ability :)) the friction between near-relatives of the singaporean chinese and the mainland chinese is the narcissism of small differences!! so to say that the resentment for brands like chagee/heytea is just xenophobia/ racism is missing the point. singaporeans are mad about a state-engineered identity colliding with newer state-engineered immigration policy
This is literally gentrification. Have you guys been to haji lane? I feel that there is a lot of chinese brands now and i think other influencers talk about this where it is not accommodating to malay, indians and other Singaporeans that can’t speak chinese
