Yes and an additional thought: I have a client who is boarding their dog with me this year as I’m located further away from any potential firework activity. For folks with dogs that can be boarded, it might be worth considering locating a boarding option that knows they are in a minimally active area - one that can administer anxiety medication if your dog needs it, and can keep your dog more comfortable if you’re in a neighborhood with lots of activity.

Same with HORSES! Every year horse owners blame neighbors for their horses getting injured. Get anxiety/sedation medications and have a plan for a safe place to keep them. If you can, work on desensitizing them to loud sounds. Some horses (or any animal really) might be scared of loud sounds simply because we protect them from it. Introducing loud sounds in a controlled environment can help any animal regulate themselves when startled.

I have been soooo “lucky” that they tore down 4 acres by my house to build houses, so she has gotten used to loud bangs, but a fly farting, sigh 😳😅
