@officialkittenlady: If you’ve ever bottle fed a kitten, you know how cute their little flappy ears are when they get a good latch. But do you know why their ears wiggle when they eat? Neonatal kittens (like Tuchus here!) are born with a suckling reflex. But even though nursing comes naturally to them, it’s actually quite a complex process. They have to coordinate sucking, swallowing, and breathing in a precise rhythm while also creating enough suction to pull mother’s milk or formula from a bottle. The muscles they use for this process are attached very close to the base of the ears…so with a strong enough suckle, you get this adorable wiggle. Tuchus was extremely underweight when he arrived, but now he’s a master bottle chugger. Those ears don’t lie!
