i don’t want to be that paragraph guy but there are some major flaws with people claiming that “Ronaldo” is washed and should be benched this world cup. Now while it’s true that Ronaldo is old now coming into this world cup and it’s basic human anatomy that older players just simply don’t perform as well, you still can’t definitively say that he is completely washed because of this one statement. First, for the argument that he carried a portugal squad in his younger years (20s) and now showing signs of no scoring momentum in his 40s is a sign that he’s washed, is just wrong. If you actually watched and analyze football you will realize that the reason why young ronaldo had so many goals is because at the time he was the only star in the team (apart from Figo) meaning that the squad would feed him balls and passes, meaning all around he got more chances to score than any other player in the squad. the mistake that portugal is doing now is feeding ronaldo EVERY ball. The player is no old and not in his prime, he’s a liability, instead portugal should not see him as the star anymore(especially giving the fact that this Portugal team has more stars than ever) but rather as a finisher that will score any goal inside of the box. But again, since they rely on him as if he was in his prime, which is just simply dumb. The second and last flaw that i see is the argument that they have a “midfield depth like no other”. Although yes they have the likes of the psg duo and fernandez, if you watched the game you would see how those same players didn’t even perform anything close to the level the shower in season. My reasoning for that is the managing. We’ve seen this with Man U, Ferguson leaves and a squad of legend collaps under bad management. The same is happening here. It’s all a result of horrible tactics that ask a 40 year old too much while not properly exploiting the potential the midfield has. All those factors will SEEM like it’s ronaldo’s time to retire, but if you look closer it’s just bad management that puts him in the spotlight with no help whatsoever.
