Anti-Irish sentiment created the stereotype of red heads are most often Irish. Red heads are generally treated poorly. So being Irish and red haired was a double-whammy of being targeted. But having the mutated MC1R gene is a Celtic thing (in the West); not just an Irish or Scots thing.
