Easier to convert to 35/60 - 27/60 + 22/60
and solve for 30/60.
Then simplify t0 1/2.

yes but these are very special cases. what about 5/12-7/20+13/30? her pattern doesn't work. it's much easier with lcd and more generally applicable.

this reminds me of a teacher who would give the reason for solving a certain way "if you're clever" you do this, which I felt was a bit of "hand waving" , So this method works. But only for special fractions in the form you showed. 😉
