And here’s the thing — this rule isn’t staying at the World Cup. It’s coming to grassroots football too. That means your Sunday league manager, your county cup final, your under-15s game — the player trudging slowly to the touchline is going to cost their team. Referees at every level need to know this. Players need to know this. Managers need to know this.

I’m on the fence. As long as time wasting is within some reasonable limit I don’t mind. It’s a part of the game and rarely was it very disruptive I’m worried that all these rules will keep being introduced. I’m worried that they will introduce a passive play rule like in handball. I kinda like the mind games
