Lmao I’m sick of the games. I did amazing in an interview and at the end of the day they chose the candidate with no degree and less experience because the interviewer thought I was too smart and would get bored fast. That was literally the deciding factor that had nothing to do with my ability to sell myself or my abilities at all

People who conduct the interviews need to stop being uptight. If you want to hire good people and make sure their integrity and personality is genuine you have to make them feel relaxed.

I'm a recruiter for the digital marketing space. The candidates that make a bigger impression on me are the ones that are curious, respectful and don't go on a super long rant about experiences that aren't related to the role. I strongly suggest researching the company, studying the job description in detail (for example, if they company is a single client or marketing agency with portfolios, if they work with e-commerce, saas, etc) and when they ask you "tell me about yourself" start with name, where you're from something personal like hobbies but short and general (movies, reading, videogames, cooking, whatever you are passionate about), then mention your latest job, how much time you worked there, what your main duties were, the tools you have used there and how that job or previous jobs match well with the new role/skills/tools according to the job description. I'd say keep that under 5-8 minutes. ( this allows the recruiters to know your personality and culture match based on the first part and then how you are the best fit for the role) When the recruiter asks you questions keep responses succint unless they ask you about the how and why, if the question is about specific tools or skills mention all of the ones you remember even if it's been years that you have used them. We always have questions prepared for candidates so it's important to allow the interviewer or recruiter really gather the data they need to find the best candidate so in a sea of candidates, being thoughtful with time and organized helps) As a tip! always always bring thoughtful questions about what the day to day looks like, tools they use like project management tools or CRMs and feel free to ask about the salary and benefits. If you want your best chances at having a decent salary feel free to ask about the budget range for that position if it wasn't provided prior. This allows room for negotiation. Confidence helps as it will allow you to share more comfortably what you are good at! Don't be afraid to build rapport with the interviewer on light topics like the weather, their day, or any other general rapport building topic like coffee, working from home vs office etc.
