@cidney.mayes: 🚨 Indie authors: Watch out for this email scam! 🚨 If you’ve received a similar email, stop and verify before you get reeled in like I almost did. Scammers are getting smarter, and authors are a growing target. In this video, I break down the red flags I spotted and how you can protect your books, your money, and your time. Have you received a suspicious author-related email? Share your experience in the comments! Even if this game felt obvious to you, it might not be for somebody else! #IndieAuthor #WritingCommunity #SelfPublishing #AuthorLife #authorscam
Book clubs in my country will certainly ask to get paid or get free books. I avoid them.

As a person that actually runs a virtual book club. This all sounds horrible and sucks because it makes it harder to get authors to pop in

This happened to me. I felt so stupid. I had no idea how to promote my book as an anonymous first time author and I got a lot of emails for “book club features”. It is so disheartening when you actually send them money when you have a zero budget to work with anyway. I don’t trust easily anymore. Still struggling to get my book out there, but not giving up

I never let it go beyond 2 emails. You can tell by asking questions, reading between the lines, the email address, etc. That being said, some are harder to confirm. But the first red flag is the easiest: Literary agents do not contact you. Leaders of book clubs rarely,if ever, contact you. Publishing companies do not contact you. If you did not make the initial contact, it’s a scam. I’ve had some contacts that used actual names of real agents at a legitimate company… It didn’t take much effort to see the scam. They feed on our dreams. Don’t let them take them away.

I have had offers like that on my Facebook author account, but I did not do it as I can't really tell the difference. Thanks for the advice. what I don't understand is when they ad me to send them my post. Can't they just share it? Seems weird to me to respond with "send me this post"

This is such an important heads up. Scammers love preying on how badly indie authors want that big break, which is exactly what makes warnings like this so valuable. Spreading awareness protects the whole community.
