If the student doesn’t do the work they shouldn’t get the grade.

George W Bush screwed up with No Child Left Behind. The echoes of it still haunt students and teachers.

Not grade flooring but I was disheartened with my kids APPhysics C teacher this year. Kid was making As all year but finally confessed that they didn’t feel good going into the AP test because the teacher had been inflating grades all year. And the teachers average AP score for students is a 2. Had I known earlier we could have done something

where i went to school they weren’t required to do this but we had a teacher who would do this for us. she was the strictest teacher we had but she believe everyone deserved at least a 50 when they tried their best

They should find a base funding for students and additional funding directly to educators based on student improvement.

Mathematically, i like a grade scale of 50%-100%. The impact of the idea seems to be pretty terrible. Mastery based grading would fix this easily. No more "classwork" grades distorting actually proficiency.

That sucks. I give zeros freely. As freely as the assignments they didn’t do. I’ll change it to a 50 later if a student is really trying and has put in the effort and just needs a little boost left to pass.

Before I retired, the high school I worked for implemented a similar upgrading scale. If a student didn't turn in an assignment, they still got a 50%. To give them a 0% would mean they were digging a hole they can never get out of. When I requested 50% of my pay if I didn't come in to work, they refused. Imagine that.
