DJ Paul (real name — Paul Duane Beauregard) is an American DJ, producer, rapper, and entrepreneur, one of the founders of the legendary group Three 6 Mafia. Alongside Juicy J, he is considered an architect of that dark, "horror-filled" Southern sound that later became the foundation for phonk and crunk. · Full name: Paul Duane Beauregard · Date and place of birth: January 12, 1977, Memphis, Tennessee, USA (Whitehaven area, South Memphis) · Family: He is the brother (some sources say half-brother) of the late rapper Lord Infamous, and also (according to some sources) the half-brother of drug lord Craig Petties. DJ Paul began his career in 1988 as a DJ at a Memphis club. Initially, he wanted to focus on DJing rather than rapping. In 1989, together with his brother Lord Infamous, he formed the duo The Serial Killaz, with Paul acting as the beatmaker. In the early 90s, Paul teamed up with Juicy J, and together with Lord Infamous, they formed a group that evolved from the name Triple Six Mafia to Three 6 Mafia. Their debut album Mystic Stylez (1995) became a cult classic. They specialized in dark, eerie beats built on heavy bass and atmospheric samples. The group achieved national success and platinum status with the album When the Smoke Clears (2000). In 2006, DJ Paul, Juicy J, and Crunchy Black won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "It's Hard out Here for a Pimp" from the film Hustle & Flow. Solo Career and Da Mafia 6ix (2010s — present): Paul has released solo albums (e.g., Underground Volume 16, Scale-A-Ton, Master of Evil). In 2014, he reunited with several former Three 6 Mafia members for the project Da Mafia 6ix. In 2018, he co-produced the track "Talk Up" featuring Jay-Z for Drake's album Scorpion. He also became a co-owner of the esports organization FaZe Clan. DJ Paul specialized in "dark, eerie tracks built on heavy bass and spine-chilling sounds." This style, which he and Juicy J created together, directly influenced the emergence of crunk and phonk genres. Their pioneering work with mixtapes (adding original songs to mixes) and their dark aesthetic later inspired artists such as SpaceGhostPurrp, $uicideboy$, and many others we've discussed. Beyond music, DJ Paul has been involved in film production (the film Choices), released a line of barbecue sauces, invested in real estate, and served as a representative for a legal version of "sizzurp" (lean). #djpaul #threesixmafia #juicyj #spaceghostpurrp #samplyy
