Persuasion is such an interesting book from Austen because it’s SO different to everything else she’s written. It’s the oldest protagonist we ever follow, the only one who isn’t a teenager or early 20s; all of the drama happened before and then we as the reader have to catch up. It’s a lot slower in its pacing and has a tighter cast of characters. It’s just so mature and distinctly Austen in its style, while differing from all of her other works in its execution.

Interestingly Austen wrote an early version of Northanger Abbey in the late 1790s, but it was not published until 1818, after her death, alongside Persuasion.

I love Virginia woolf’s view of Persuasion, if you’ve read her essay on Jane Austen. I think she calls it both dull and beautiful lol

omg just started this last night ! reading it for the first time and loving it so far , jane austen just writes such likeable main characters ! i love anne so far , and i loved elizabeth in p&p and emma in emma 😌 not read any others so far though

If you'd like an actual underground deep philosophy book without any terminologies, i recommend The World According to Gen Z by K. Archura. It conveys emotions and experiences so deeply and vividly.
