Ive kept mine off , unauthorised absences of course but I dont care . My eldest was currently sat on 100% attendance so I don't let them off willy nilly

my children are in reception and year 1, they have 1 teacher and 2 TAs per class as well as Aircon in the classrooms. they will actually be in a more comfortable environment than they would be at home, sitting in a sweltering house stuck in their tablets to keep out of the heat!

If you take them for lunch to McD's, A pub, cafe etc while they're off school, think of the staff working in 40°+ temperatures won't you.

Mine are in because this week they feel ok. They went in well hydrated, with enough cold drinks to keep them hydrated, pe kits, sun hats and slathered in sun cream of which they also know how to reapply should they go out. Most importantly they were told if they’re struggling or don’t feel well to speak up and tell the teacher and we’ll go from there. Day 3 and no dramas so far 👍🏼.

I couldn’t agree with you more! Children aren’t able to regulate themselves well enough to know how to manage the heat either.

"Everyone keeps saying schools should stay open, but how can you expect children to concentrate when they haven't slept properly because of the heat? Sitting in a roasting classroom all day isn't helping anyone. Schools need air conditioning."

My daughter school is open and I raised a concern with office staff and said is it wise and safe for any child to be in school with 30 children in each class and all I got was “it’s the department of health decision” I said I get that completely but surely it’s my responsibility and my duty as her parent to decide weather she goes in or not and again I got “it’s the department’s of health decision” 🙈 so she gone in this morning I will be picking her up early this afternoon! 😩🙈 xx
