The typical Black household earns about $56,490. Almost double. The "model minority" story says some cultures are just better at succeeding. But hold race steady. A Nigerian immigrant earns more than a Black American born in the US, until you account for how he got here: peak working age, a degree (64% vs about 25%), and the skilled visa he came on. Then the gap nearly closes. You see it within Asians too. Chinese immigrants are hyperselected (over half arrive with a degree, against roughly 1 in 10 adults in China), so they thrive. Burmese Americans came as refugees, taken in for need not skills, and sit far behind on education and poverty. It was never the culture. It is selection.
