@thinkingcanine: Did you know that dogs can develop compulsive behaviors? They can! If you see this starting, it needs to be worked on and stopped right away and if it continues, then you might need to speak to your vet. This can become an extreme fixation quickly.

my grandparents had a Rottweiler that would circle trees all day long until there were rats around them. she began chasing shadows as well. we ended up putting her down. she started to bite us kids too

unfortunately I believe my dog had become obsessive, my mom used a laser pointer on her which was funny at first! but she began just staring and chasing every single reflection of light that moves even slightly. it's like she couldn't hear you or notice anything else outside of the light. thankfully I haven't seen her do it in months even when there are moving light reflections, after I began removing her from the room that had the reflection. I tried to simply prevent the reflections but I live with 8 other people and there's just too many screens and shiny things, and nobody takes me seriously.

Love your content! It’s so interesting that dogs aren’t good generalizers when it comes to training a new skill, but they seem VERY skilled at generalizing things that create obsession or fear (like you said in a previous vid about a negative grooming experience resulting in generalized fear at the vet or with strangers)

Ok, help me out here... every Pitbull I've owned has loved rocks. I would not characterize it as obsessed but they love rocks to be thrown to them or love to go out and "collect" rocks and make a little pile of them on the side of the creek... anyone else experience this or know what this is? initially I thought it was a prey drive thing but it's not always moving rocks, sometimes it's just collecting the rocks from the creek and piling them up along the side. Mind you, these have all been the old school, smaller, "game bred" OG type of pit bull, rescues mostly, so not biologically related. I've not had other breeds do this so I'm assuming it's one of the many little APBT quirks, but surely there are other dogs that do this???

My dog is in the category where he would perish after spending hours in the midday sun chasing shadows if I left him to it. Years of bmod and medication have not altered this behaviour, probably because I cannot reliably prevent shadows and reflections. The sun coming out cues shadow chasing behaviour… it’s a nightmare in the summer. We have to sit in the dark with the curtains drawn because birds flying by my living room windows cast shadows on the floor ☹️

my dog hallucinate bugs in his fur for hours after walks and the only thing my behaviorist can come up with is to sedate him lol, its so annoying. no hate to the behaviorist, I dont get either

.y.dpg is obsessed with balls, we had to stop bringing them in the house at all. sad because he lived them, but he became OBSESSED

my st. bernard stares up at stuff all the time, street lights, the sky all the things. It's not something that's actively harming him but I still don't really want him to do it. How should I start to work on it?
