Students all learn from career guidance teachers how to fill in the CAO form. It's drummed in to them. It's also on social media, can be Googled for confirmation, FAQ sections etc. The priority is not deciding what college you want to go to, but what course you actually want to do. If it happens to be in a college near you then great. If it's across the country then go there. The bottom line is you put as No. 1 the course you REALLY want to do. Doesn't matter what the points are for it - you put in order of YOUR preference all the courses you want to do regardless of their points requirements. No point in throwing in a 600+ course as No 1 that you don't expect to get, and your favourite course as No.2. If you surprise yourself and hit the 600+ mark that's the course you'll be offered, the one and only. Not the No.2 course that you really wanted. Too many people ending up doing courses in first year, dropping out and starting again. Get rid of the notions of prestige courses/colleges and do what's right for you, what your gut is telling you to do. A huge factor in being happy at college is down to enjoying the course you're doing. Then you'll find your people, not the other way around.
