It never really matters what someone looks like. What matters is their soul, their heart and the way they treat people.
I know I’m not in the exact same boat as you, so I could never fully understand everything you’ve been through. I used to have really bad acne, and it got to the point where I couldn’t even look in the mirror for about a year. I didn’t want to leave the house, and when I did, it would usually be late at night because I felt so ashamed and uncomfortable in my own skin.
The strange thing is, most people didn’t really care as much as I thought they did. Of course, you get the odd look or the odd person who makes you feel small, but kind people look past all of that. I remember there was an older lady who saw past my skin and spoke to me like a person. She saw that I was actually a kind and sweet person, and that stayed with me.
My skin is a lot clearer now and I’m much more confident, but that experience changed the way I see people. It taught me to treat people with kindness and respect, because you never know what someone is carrying or how much they are already battling inside.
There will always be bad apples, but you don’t have to give them your love, attention or energy. Focus on the people who see you properly the ones who see your heart.
