I'm a dentist and tried commenting on this earlier, but sure if you saw it though.
Please keep in mind, I have no financial interest in this.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I want to warn you about replacing that filling with a white one. It will not work long term at all. But your dentist will make a nice profit. They are weaker, increase the risk of more cavities and gum disease. And they shrink after they are placed, so for an extensive filling like this, it's extremely likely to make the tooth crack, and you risk loosing it.
Doing a silver filling is a safer choice, and doing a metal/gold onlay or crown is the safest choice by far.
In terms of health, white fillings are absolutely not safer. That's based on myths. White fillings are basically glue, chemicals and plastic. And they contain chemicals that are well known to increase the risk of cancer. Small amounts yes, but constant exposure. This is enough for me to limit the use of composite fillings in my own and my family's teeth to the visible surfaces of the very front teeth.
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions :)
