@museumofscience: This metal robot melts in hot water 🤖 A tiny robot made of gallium can melt into a puddle of liquid metal and then return to its original shape. Gallium may look like ordinary metal, but it has an unusually low melting point of just 86°F (30°C). By placing “Gally” in hot water, the weak bonds between gallium atoms begin to break apart, transforming the solid robot into a pool of shimmering liquid metal. Using liquid nitrogen to cool it down, Gally solidifies once again. It’s a fascinating demonstration of how temperature affects the state of matter and the properties of elements. #Chemistry #Education #Science #STEM #ScienceExperiment

the water didn't really melt the metal, the heat did. I think a more fitting question for this experiment would be "can metal be melted inside water?" also water may not be able to melt metal, but it can definitely disintegrate it! that's actually part of the reason why it's important to not have pure water flow through your pipes! there has to be sm intertwined with the H2O overwise the water will break apart your pipes over a pretty short time!
