1. You can’t take criticism
Foremen, superintendents, even your own crew will correct you constantly — sometimes loudly and in front of everyone. If every piece of feedback feels like a personal attack, you’ll be stressed out or fired within weeks. 2. You can’t admit faults or own your mistakes
This kind of work moves fast and mistakes happen. You need to quickly admit when you screwed up, fix it, and move on. Blaming others, making excuses, or hiding errors wastes time, costs money, and destroys trust with the crew. If your ego won’t let you say “my bad,” this isn’t the field for you 3. You have low pain tolerance
Hammered thumbs, cuts, splinters, back strains, sore knees, and sunburn are daily occurrences. If a paper cut ruins your day, you’re not built for 10-hour shifts where minor injuries are just part of the job 4. You’re not a team player You need to tolerate different personalities, communicate clearly, and work well with others even on bad days. If you can’t show up reliably or speak up without drama, the whole crew feels it and you won’t last 5. You have poor problem-solving skills This kind of work throws curveballs every day. You need to think on your feet, adapt fast, and fix issues on the fly without getting discouraged when plans fall apart. If setbacks frustrate you easily or you freeze instead of finding a solution, you won’t last on the job site 6. You don’t respect power tools If you treat saws, nail guns, grinders, and drills like toys or think you’re too good to follow proper technique and safety rules, you’re a danger to yourself and everyone around you. Real tradesmen respect their tools — cocky guys who don’t usually end up hurt or fired 7. You have poor physical fitness Construction is physically demanding — lifting heavy materials, climbing ladders, and long days on your feet. If you’re out of shape or lack basic strength and stamina, you’ll struggle, get injured quickly, or slow the whole crew down. if you want to know more or just connect with people working in the skilled trades join our discord #krash
