@tessa_dunlop: This is a simplification- but tell me there is no a connection between our national identity, the doomism of Starmerism, Brexit and post imperial Britain. It has been jarring to say the least! More on #wherepoliticsmeetshistory #starmer #brexit #empire

I knew Keir through work in 2009. He was / IS the nicest, kindest, most honest man. He is a mensch.

I really like him. I think he’s tried hard …. The issues we face are complex and there are no easy solutions. He’s a decent man and I don’t understand why there’s so much attitude towards him

Well there were quite a few instances of poor judgement -winter fuel, raising employers NI, Mandelson - and early on instances of accepting gifts when he'd made such a point of criticising the Tories for that. And his repeated refusal to answer questions at PMQs makes him seem devious and untrustworthy. To hear former cabinet ministers describe him as an indecisive ditherer doesn't inspire confidence either.

Bot farms basically, they’ve all been turned off now. And all of a sudden the comments have switched to people being confused why he was so hated

Because politics has become ultra polarised and binary. You’re either a hero or the enemy. Common sense and decency has been usurped by rage-baiting and tribalism.

I think there are several reasons but one of them is that we're living in a society where instant gratification, immediate results and lack of patience. We expected an easy fix and weren't prepared to wait. I don't think he was ordinary enough. The fact he was knighted, he really couldn't be the man of the people.

I just can't believe how this man was continously attacked. Mr Starmer always came across as a good person. And the dignity he held when he was continously attacked by Donald Trump

I don't even think it's genuine public opinion that's created his resignation. Is Labour unpopular? Yes. Anyone in office at the moment would be. This has come from within and he's been made a sacrificial lamb for an agenda that most people not dare talk about. When I saw Burnham win a tiddly little by-election that wouldn't usually scrape media coverage, and it was EVERYWHERE, I knew something was up for Starmer. He's inexperienced, untested, and I think the majority of the public has very little to go on regarding his views and diplomatic skills. This move was not for us.
