@giganteknits: If you think wool prepping is easy, here’s what I actually do. I don’t make the wool — I buy it ready-dyed in big, unspun rolls: New Zealand fibre, dyed and processed in the UK. What happens next is the part that matters, and I do every bit of it by hand before a single gram reaches you: 🧶 I smooth each length twice, then split it in half lengthwise. 🧶 I comb it through by hand to align the fibres — twice — so they lie straight and parallel. 🧶 I humidify it three times so the fibres settle and hold together. Then I roll it into even bundles, ready to knit straight from. That alignment is the whole point. When the fibres lie straight instead of criss-crossed, there are far fewer loose ends for friction to catch, so it pills less, knits smoother, and holds its shape better than roving straight off the shelf.
