@mudlust.ceramics: Bone China Experiment: Day 2 🦴✨ The experiment continues. After a 48-hour peroxide bath, they bubbled and got a lot whiter. I did a dawn dish soap soak in distilled water (you don't want tap water because of minerals) then some sun drying. Then, I got impatient. 🙋♀️ In an effort to speed things up, I threw them in the oven at 200°C for 6 hours. Plot twist: I forgot a baking rack. So instead of drying, they just baked in a fresh puddle of their own grease. Haha oops. Round two with a rack worked like a charm. Now they are drying out. While I wait, I’ve been prepping: 🥣 Two sacrificial "throwaway" bowls to hold the bones during the calcining fire. 🍪 Made test tile cookies for three different recipe trials: 30%, 40%, and 50% bone ash. Next step: Cooking the Bones in the kiln!!

I thought it was called bone china because of how white and shiny it was. not because it had actual bone 😳

So we’re all just learning that bone china isn’t called that just because of how thin it is 👀

boiling makes the bones soak with the grease, dawn dishsoap from the start is usually better, change it the water daily, it will get rid of the grease without soaking in
