Yeah if this is enforced at anyone’s work (unless you’re salary, or for the few other exceptions) in the US, it’s illegal. Report it to HR, and to the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division. You cannot be forced to work for free. You CAN be disciplined for that one minute late back to work, but that discipline has to be legal.
