@cbcnews: The proposed Alto high-speed rail project from Quebec City to Toronto was announced late last year with planned stops in Trois-Rivières, Laval, Montreal, Ottawa and Peterborough. But Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon told reporters Monday that his office is 'going to take a very, very, long, strong and positive look' at the possibility of including Kingston in the future of Canada's first high-speed rail line. Alto has proposed two routes: One is essentially a straight line between Peterborough and Ottawa, and the second, a southern track that dips to within a half-hour's drive of downtown Kingston. #HighSpeedRail #CdnPoli #Kingston #Transportation #CBCNews

It always confused me why Kingston was left off. Glad to see this decision being reconsidered.

it cant be high speed if it has to turn and stop constantly. the only way this would work is if you remove Peterborough, and having lived in Peterborough, the city needs this. Kingston wants this and would get good use out of it, but it would breathe life into Peterborough in a way the city has desperately needed for a long time.

The green line will cut through prime farmland and will undoubtedly piss off a lot of farmers. The yellow line cuts through the lower part of the Canadian Shield and has less valuable land and will prove to have less resistance from local, rural municipalities.

what we also need (maybe even more than this) is inter-city transportation, especially with the elimination of Greyhound. Support smaller cities and towns!

It did confuse me why it was not using the current corridor. Kingston isn’t that far from Ottawa that I wouldn’t even mind driving down, but there is a VIA Rail stop in the West End of Ottawa that we can get on to get to the high speed line if it follows the same corridor. It will also save a lot of current farmland and small businesses. 💗💗💗

It would benefit Kingston to address the issues on the VIA line rather than add them to the Alto.
