@drjessicaknurick: Thanks to @Propel for sponsoring this video. Food insecurity for children and families often rises in the summer, when millions of kids lose access to the meals they normally get at school. One program that can help is SUN Bucks, or Summer EBT, which is a federal nutrition program that gives eligible families $120 per child to help buy groceries during the summer. But many families don’t know they qualify, and not every state is participating, which can make it confusing to figure out whether you need to apply or how to access the benefit. The Propel app is a free tool that can help families check their eligibility, understand whether they need to apply, and manage their EBT benefits in one place. If you think your family might qualify, or you want to help spread the word, here are a few places to start: ✔️Check your eligibility for SUN Bucks and manage your EBT benefits with the free Propel App. ✔️Find free summer meals near you using the USDA Summer Meals Site Finder. ✔️Support local food banks or donate to organizations helping families facing summer food insecurity.

Tennessee refused the federally funded summer program because there's a state program. It covers only 13 of the state's 95 counties. It's intentional cruelty directed at children.

In my city, our school district provides free meals to all of our students, no questions ever week day all summer. Breakfast and lunch are available Monday - Friday. The area I live in is very expensive and this has become a very important resource for many families. This is not “need based” so there’s no paperwork. Kids just show up and get a meal at school. See friends. Our schools double as parks so it’s a safe place to hang out for the day where there are trusted school employees around as monitors, too.

Lizzie is Losing It :
In my city, kids can still go to any school and pick up meals because of the high levels of food insecurity. All children can get free lunch here, which is how it should be!

What you bring up is the difficulty in informing the population. There are soooo many Government programs that were created to help people but the information is not readily available. I wish city councilmen/women would act on issues such as this and send out mailings. We need to find an answer

In VA, if you attend public school and receive free or reduced lunch, I believe, the school system automatically enrolls you for this program this year.
