@profemilyoster: We all hate wasting breastmilk—pouring out a half-finished bottle can feel painful. The good news: new data suggest it may be safe to use for longer than older guidelines recommend. Read the full findings on ParentData.org, and share your breastmilk storage experiences in the comments.

First time mom and I hated this advice. I went off of cooking methods. If you used some and didn’t use the rest. WITHOUT BACKFLOW. put it in the fridge like you would leftovers. My baby never had issues with this.

This is misleading. This is a pre-print and they only specifically looked at milk from 17 breastfeeding moms while over 20 were from formula. Please don’t mislead until it’s published. Also, authors said to not use this data for general use, there needs to be more data

This study doesn't appear to have been peer-reviewed yet from what I can tell.

Does the new data also support reheating it (ie baby drinks some, you put it back in the fridge for several hours, can you then reheat before offering again?)

Is this only for freshly expressed breastmilk? Or does this include heated milk?

What about mixing fresh (warm) pumped milk with cold milk stored in the fridge? Can we just mix it or do you have to cool the fresh one first to be same temp?

Been doing this from the get go with my 1st kid in 2021 because I REFUSED to throw away milk. She literally never got sick & EVERYONE told me I was doing it all wrong. 😆 Looks like I was just ahead of the knowledge curve.
