Girl Dad to 4 daughters here. Yes, I said 4. I'm ok, I don't know why people always ask that. Anyway, I personally always just ask first. "Do you want me to help you find solutions to this problem? Or do you want me to just listen while you get it off your chest?" They are usually happy to tell you what they need, but it helps to be fluent in Blubberspeak. 🤣🤣🤣

I was given a tool in my marriage where we ask “trashcan or toolbox” is you say trashcan, it’s just a vent session. If you say toolbox, you want advice. Best advice I ever got.

When my wife starts venting I ask, is this a fixing conversation or a listening one. I then proceed from there. Most times it’s just a listening one so I’m there to just allow her to get it out.
